-Love EVERY Body – 3er mes-

¡Buenas buenas!

Hello hello! I´ve been missing during January but today the third assignment of the Love EVERY Body workshop is due and I couldn´t miss it. This time we´re gonna talk about our shoulders, arms and hands.

If there´s something I can say about my shoulders and arms is that I always liked them. I even like the scar on my left arm, souvenir of an allergic reaction to a shot they gave me when I was little. They´re strong arms, capable of carrying things and straining without me having to sit around like a damsel in distress waiting for a man to come and help me. (Disclaimer: I don´t believe that every woman who needs help is playing this card, but I get really annoyed with the ones who seem afraid of picking up a pencil in case they break a nail).

My hands are another story: I´ve got a love-hate relationship with them. I love them because they remind me of my grandma. She had the same hands, with long fingers and big nails, and we used to join palms together and compare them, watching my hand grow until it reached the size of hers. I remember her telling me I had the hands of a piano player. My grandma and I had a very close relationship since I was born, and although it´s been a few years since she passed away already, when I look at my hands I can see hers and still feel her with me.

The hate part in this relationship came later, when I started seeing my fingers not like long pianist fingers but as fat and graceless extremities. At some point and without any apparent reason, my mind decided that if my hands didn´t have the elegance of movement of a ballerina´s, they weren´t worthy of attention. Consciously I can understand that this idea is ridiculous and meaningless, but for some reason it´s the first thing that comes to mind when I see any picture of my hands. That´s the reason of the photos that come with this post –I decided to prove myself that my arms and hands could also be nice and graceful. And even if it sounds presumptuous, I believe that, at least this time, I did it.

Tell me, what´s the thing that you like the most about your own arms and hands?

  1. Your shoulders, arms and hands ARE graceful and lovely. It comes across through your pose in your photos, especially the last one, where you definitely have the expressive arms of a dancer. Your grandma was right! I'm glad when you look at your hands you think of your gran - what a lovely reminder. :)

I know what you mean about 'damsels', I think sometimes playing too much of the 'hopeless woman' act doesn't do a lot for the rest of us women. I prefer to be strong, raaaaah! But men need to be needed, so what to do?! A happy medium, I think. :D x x

    1. Thank you Leah!

I used to work filing papers and carry boxes from the office to the storage room all the time, while my lady co-workers always waited until one of the guys was around to ask them to do it. It used to drive me crazy and I think I´m still a little scorched! Hahaha

  5. Lovely blog! I think it's fantastic that your hands remind you of your grandma that you loved very much. In my blog I talked about a very similar thing, in that my arms are freckled and have small moles just like my great aunts. :)

Your photos are beautiful and very graceful. You've done a great job with this months challenge. x
